Some valid points. I would have said some of the points you make. But more than Star Wars, I think the movie is strikingly similar to James Cameron’s own Abyss.

Somehow the movie failed to make an emotional connection to me, and I guess I am too old to be taken in just by the special effects.

Another thing … even the theme is very similar to Hayao Miyazaki’s movies – most notably Princess Mononoke. Watch it if you can. I am betting the movie is a lot inspired from that. The princess of a forest that is alive. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119698/

Avatar will be doomed! the storyline clung on to the visual effects to save itself frm media bash..
